Father Asanga, new Chaplain of IMAC

Reverend Father Assanga has been officially appointed International Chaplain of the International Movement of the Apostolate of Children (MIDADE).

This appointment reflects the confidence placed in him, his pastoral qualities, and his unwavering commitment to education, youth, and the universal mission of the Church.

Father Assanga will now be responsible for providing spiritual guidance to the movement internationally, fostering cohesion and vitality within the teams, and nurturing hope within MIDADE communities worldwide.

He has the institutional support of his Church.

Born in 1983 and ordained a priest at the age of 30 for the Missionary Oblates of Mary (OMI), Father Asanga Aruna Nanayakkara has been the director and chaplain of the Sri Lankan Movement (La.Kri.Vi.) since 2021.

He holds degrees in psychology and child psychology, philosophy, and theology. Furthermore, he is a Justice of the Peace for the island of Sri Lanka, he leads community and spiritual retreats in Sri Lanka, and he is the representative of the Catholic Church at the UNICEF Forum of Religious Leaders.

He participated in the Midade International Meeting in the summer of 2025 in Côte d’Ivoire and is delighted to be able to contribute in this new way to the work of Midade in service to the children of the world
